So what is a transitional bungalow? And why offer anything other than traditional craftsman bungalow house plans on The Bungalow Company website?

The truth is that not all building sites support traditional bungalows, nor should they.

The success of the Bungalow Company stems from our ability to understand the context of a building site and create solutions that respond to the site and home owner.

Consider that bungalows once were modern architecture. It’s the design principles that matter, not just the exterior aesthetic. Transitional and contemporary homes that exemplify good design are the future old homes.

Neighborhoods are distinct, whether they be traditional, transitional or contemporary. They merit distinct design solutions as do the individual lots within them. Does the lot lend itself to rear yard living, a drive under garage? Or perhaps living happens in both the front and rear, as is often the case with waterfront or golf course lots. The lot should inform the design.

In addition to our traditional bungalow plan collection, we are introducing a collection of 5 transitional plans. We have brought our understanding of human scale, livability and materials to these designs.

These homes are derived from traditional forms and range from 2000 to 4500 square feet and are a mix of single, two-story and four-story plans. The transitional collection embodies all of the attention to detail, smart design principles and innovative planning concepts that have guided the Bungalow Company over the last 18 years.
